Is homemade jerky safe?
Yes! Just be sure to take precautions not to eat raw or under-cooked meat. Follow recommended safety advice for bringing the meat up to temperature. This will kill any unwanted issues.
Can I make jerky in the oven?
You can make jerky in your oven. It works best with ovens that can be set to a low temperature for a long period of time. Most newer models (and many older ones) allow you to set the temperature below 200 degrees.
Do I need special tools?
The only special tool you need is a wire rack to lay the strips on. You don’t even need a sharp knife, as you can ask the butcher at your local shop to slice it for you.
